According to the specs I've seen, an unmodified Savage's top speed is about 85 mph. If you look at the dyno charts on Jason Picton's Web page (which you can jump to from mine, below), you'll see that stock horsepower runs from about 25 to 28. Use of a SuperTrapp muffler can add 4 or 5 hp to that (and may increase the maximum speed a bit). I don't have a figure for torque, but I think it's higher than the horsepower. While that torque might get a new rider in trouble, I think that the Savage is suitable for careful beginners. The low weight, low seat height, and relatively low center of gravity are also advantages for new riders.
